This is a great discussion-thanks! Is there any sense that the digital Yuan, offshore e-RMB or other Chinese digital fiat products might help slake appetite for crypto among Chinese retail investors? In other words, how does the digital Yuan help China ‘combat’ crypto?

Ross, my guess is that Beijing does its best to ban retail crypto, at least onshore. It’s not interested in their appetites, and the eRMB is not designed as a placebo. It has its own internal logic of state enablement and control.

Thanks Jame. I have been wondering about where (and whether) the border between the realms of CBDC and 'stateless' crypto are coming into sharper focus, particularly where China is concerned, and your thoughts are a great help.
